Lymphatic Filariasis: Typically refers to the changes in the look of the legs where it resembles the thick, rough, pebbly, dark leg of an elephant. This happens when there is lymphatic blockage in the lower extremities that is seen with parasitic worm infections from wuchereria bancrofti, brugia malayi, and b. Timori, and is followed by chronic swelling and inflammation of the affected limb.

Lymph obstruction: Elephantiasis refers to massive swelling of a limb due to blockage of tiny channels in the soft tissues called lymphactics. These channels usually help circulate white blood cells throughout the body and help filter certain waste products. Parasites and certain developmental diseases can cause elephantiasis. Lymphatic swelling caused by tumors or operations is usually called lymphedema.
