Are there any books like self-help that you can recommend for someone trying to recover from psychological trauma?

Yes: There are a number of good books available on amazon.Com including the ptsd workbook and the post traumatic stress disorder sourcebook. I think you would find these to be quite helpful.

PTSD books: Dr. Jacobson shared a great option. One i would add is "the ptsd workbook: simple, effective, techniques for overvcoming traumatic stress symptoms": http://tinyurl.Com/mpsdd8r working through the book's exercises & worksheets along with a therapist will probably give you the best results.
