Usually general: The type of anesthesia used for this procedure is general anesthesia. It is true that this is the same kind that they used years ago, but the modern medicines have made the procedure so much safer and more pleasant. If you have concerns please speak to your anesthesiologist before the case.

Various types: General anesthesia is commonly used, but spinal and epidural anesthesia can be used also. There are some newer drugs, but the anesthetic techniques have not changed a lot in the past decade or so.
