Bone loss: Periodontal disease (gum disease) is usually a painless disease and it's main characteristic is bone loss, bleeding gums, swollen gums, and possibly loose teeth. Sometimes there is pus that comes out of the gums next to the tooth. when probed with a calibrated instrument, the probings are 5 millimeters or more.
