Areas of fat ?: Areas of fat is not usually something seen on an ultrasound. Hypoechogenic areas less than 0.5 cm is not worrysome, if you are not menopausal. Serial ultrasounds can be used to follow them. Dermoids tend to be echogenic, that is cast shadows. That is because they can contain hair, teeth, bone, fat, and other skin structures.
