How quickly does the median nerve repair itself after being damaged during carpal tunnel release?

Depends on the damag: If the median nerve is partially or completely cut it needs to be surgically repaired. If it is bruised then it should be better in 6-8 weeks. The problem is you do not want to wait 6-8 weeks if the nerve is cut. After 10 days you may need a nerve graft rather than a primary repair.

For most: It may be based upon where you start from and how healthy you are and timing. The extent of the nerve compression, the amount of scarring, age, and many factors . There is not one set answer but a range depending upon all these factors.

Depends: Patients with intermittent symptoms before carpal tunnel surgery are usually better the same day. If the nerve has been significantly injured-usually the fingers are always numb-the sensation may return over months to years. If the muscle has been lost for over a year, it will never recover.

Depends: If the nerve is completely cut, recovery will require at least 2-3 years.
