Ateletasis: Lung collapse or atelectasis is portion of lung that is not ventilated usually do to obstruction of bronchus by plug or extrinsic bronchial compression. Persistent loss of volume means lung does not ventilate for prolonged period of time. Sometimes physical therapy to chest is performed or assisted ventilation to try to open area of lung collapse.
