Foot?: As one ages, the tissue on the ball aspect of your feet thins out resulting in tenderness at the metatarsal heads. Morton's neuroma can arise and cause pain . Try using a cushioning pad inside your shoe; if you still have problems, see an orthopedic surgeon, or podiatrist.

Possibilities : Two possibilities come to mind; one possibly due to a degenerative process involving the joint at the "ball" of your foot/feet. This develops over time. Also with aging the normal fat pads over that area thin out and there is less padding over the joint. This could be a reason too. Consider seeing a podiatrist for a further more specific evaluation.
