My doc told me to stop taking alprazolam/1mg per day. been on it for 6months. am i at risk for wd? should i wean off, or can i just stop?

WEAN OFF: Probably easier to wean off - down to 0.5/day for a few days then 0.25 for a few more. Might not be necessary, but weaning might prevent rebound anxiety.

PLEASE TAPER: Please do not stop xanax (alprazolam) without a gradual taper. I have seen some physicians tell patients they can stop 1mg with no difficulty, and have also seen the results. In fact i just saw a man this past week whose primary care physician had done this -- he was trembling, nauseated, and panicky. Your body can become habituated to even a 1mg dose. Please taper if deciding to stop this medicine.
