Wait: You need to wait and see if the polyps are benign (in which case they will likely advise a follow up colo in a year or two) or if there is cancer (that will require further therapy). Give your friend your support and be there for her. She is fortunate to have you. Hope it all goes well.

Depends: There are different types of polyps and a colonoscopy that reveals them will usually be accompanied by biopsy. If the biopsy is positive for malignancy, the doctor with then likely do follow up abdominal scans to evaluate for spread or just do follow up colonoscopy to recheck. Routine colon evaluation are recommended for adults over 50yo or earlier if there is a personal or family h/o cancer.
