Nothing much: Since mumps is a viral infection, no effective treatment is available. Fortunately, mumps vaccine is very effective even if long-term protection requires two doses of vaccine, typically given at 1 and 4 years of age. Mumps used to be a leading cause of viral meningitis and orchitis(inflammation of testicle) until universal vaccination against mumps was instituted.

Prevention: Mumps can be a very serious disease causing swollen glands, swelling of the testicles, encephalitis. It can lead to sterility. There are no good antiviral cures..Prevention is best thru immunizations.

Prevention: Mumps virus is reasonably preventabe by receiving the proper doses of vaccine. This vaccine has decades of proven safety and efficacy.Keep in mind, it may be neccessary to boost your immune response with a booster dose in teens or adulthood. Mumps virus has no good medical therapy other than treating the symptoms.
