Sun damage: What most people refer to as "liver spots" are in actuality manifestations of sun damage to the skin call solar (sun-induced) lentigos. In and of themselves they are not dangerous, but they do indicate that a person has had extensive sun exposure. Protect your skin with gloves, and daily sun block SPF 30 or more that blocks uva and uvb rays.

Liver Spots: Liver spots are changes in skin color that occur in older skin. The increased color may be due to aging, exposure to the sun or other forms of ultraviolet light, or other unknown causes. Liver spots are very common after age 40. They occur most often on areas that have the greatest sun exposure: back of hands, face, forearms, forehead, shoulders.
