A few steps: Make sure to apply indirect ice to the affected area, wrap ice in a thin towel, making sure not to put direct ice on the area. This works best for immediate relief. Ice the area right after the activity to reduce inflammation and later use a heat pack to increase blood flow to the area. You can also take tylenol, (acetaminophen) advil, or aleve to further help the soreness.
