Yes: The most common reason for this is a hole between the lower chambers that happens if the walls do not finish forming.About half of these are small and will close spontaneously within a year of birth. There are several other things that could fit this label. If you have a murmur now it could be related to a hole or one of the innocent murmurs that are harmless.Discuss with your doc to see which.

Yes, but...: "hole in the heart" is really not a good term--> can mean multiple things. Atrial or ventricular septal defects (asds or vsds) are birth defects with a hole in the wall between the 2 sides of the heart, either between the upper or lower chambers. If big, they may produce symptoms & need treatment or surgery. If small, they may close on their own. They can make an extra sound, called a murmur.
