Absolutely: Hard, painful lumps in the middle of the tongue are not part of your normal anatomy. Your post did not say how long you have this, whether your tongue was traumatized, or if it is at the surface or deep in the tissue. In any event, it should be examined by an oral surgeon to determine if it needs further treatment. Call your local dentist for a referral.

See oral surgeon: If the lump is from a recent trauma, you do not need to worry about it because it will heal. If no known trauma then you should see an oral surgeon or you dentist about this and find out what is going on.
