Slammed thumb in car door. bleed underneath nail. now nail seems to be peeling....nail is now bumpy and gross. is this normal? can't get manicure.

Yes: The bleeding (hematoma) below your nail is an indication that you tore the nail bed and possibly also broke the bone beneath. Once the nail grows out ( will take many months and it will fall off leaving a new one beneath) you will hopefully have had a good idea how it is healing. I can't emphasize how important it is to listen to your doctors.

Sounds Severe: I would recommend seeing a doctor for this. Better to see what's going on under the nail then to leave it alone.
