Neuropathy/Vascular: The main causes of pins and needles are the following: neuropathy (usually from diabetes or alcohol use), impaired blood flow, or metabolic causes such as changes in calcium or magnesium. Some medications can cause pins and needles-a common medication would be topiramate. A neurologist would be able to help you by doing an exam, ordering blood tests and an EMG test.
