I currently seem to bleed a very small amount when my period is due. does it mean it still counts as a normal period and that i'm ovulating?

May be abnormal: Light periods can, like fuller periods indicate that one is ovulating provided that they are regular each month. Light periods may indicate a problem if these represent a change from prior flow such as scarring of uterus after a curettage. Periods may be normally light if taking hormones, hormonal iud, menopausal conditions, pregnancy etc. Discuss with your gyn.

Difficult to say: A change in the characteristics of your menstrual cycle may indicate some ovulation dysfunction. Also there may be some intrauterine abnormality if there has been surgery recently. Very little menstrual flow may also indicate low estrogen priming of the uterine lining. Some medications such as Clomid (clomiphene) may shorten and lighten the menstrual flow.
