A member asked:

Is a1c 6.5 acceptable? my glucose meters aren't accurate; my lab plasma sugar is 35 points higher.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It depends: Upon your definition of "acceptable". It's not normal, and the closer you get it to normal the less risk you're at of dying early and avoiding complications. If going on dialysis when you could have avoided it is acceptable, then it's fine. Always strive to do better each day, there is always something you can improve and diabetes tends to worsen over time when left alone.
