Don't unless pregnan: Unless you're pregnant, we don't treat asymptomatic urinary tract infections. Therefore, we don't go looking for UTI unless you're pregnant (and that's to prevent preterm delivery). But especially in elderly and those w/indwelling catheters, ignore smell & appearance of urine as it's common for catheters to become colonized. Unless there's pain or change in mental status, don't take antibiotics.

May not be needed: Asymptomatic bacteriuria (colonization of urine with bacteria unassociated with signs/symptoms of infection/uti) occurs in small number of healthy individuals and more often affects the elderly, women moreso than men, and in those who have an indwelling urinary catheter. Generally can be safely observed and not treated with antibiotics unless felt to be at a high risk for infection (e.g. Diabetes).
