Diagnosis critical: Your dentist needs to evaluate your mouth and related muscles and tm joint to determine what the diagnosis then treatment plan would entail. A chiropractor could be of benefit if it's determined to be of musculo-skeletal origin. Sometimes some physical therapy is indicated.

TMD: You do have tmj, as a matter of fact you have two, one on each side. But if you would have tmd (temporomandibular disorders) you would need to visit a TMJ specialist (in most cases a dentists) and have your specific problem diagnosed and treated accordingly. Tmd encompasses many different disorders.

Options: There are many things that can be done... But the key is what the diagnosis is... Tmd is a group of conditions related to the TMJ and without a diagnosis the treatment is a stab in the dark. If you have not been given a diagnosis consider seeing a dentist that can do so if your condition persists. Treatment can consist of home care, pt, splints, medications, acupuncture, and injections.

A few things: Your dentist can't do much unless is is a TMJ expert. Ask him. The chiropractor mostly is doing physical therapy modalities.
