My physio has sent me for a ultrasound scan of my shoulder re subacromial bursitis concerned it is going to be painful as previous scans have been ?

Shoulder US: Shoulder us may be painful as we're trying to obtain dynamic images of your anatomy. In my experience they are not as painful as out forth here and since this is going to be a limited scan, it really should not be much of a problem. Good luck. Not really: Shoulder us is a very safe and effective means of assessing your rotator cuff. Make sure the clinician is adept at diagnosing cuff pathology as there is a steep learning curve for this modality. It generally can be done in office and takes me an average of 5-10 minutes to assess. It has greatly added to my practice. I would not stress over it.

Shoulder Ultrasound: Painless procedure. Easy to explain findings to patient. Also you can do a dynamic evaluation (moving the shoulder). Skilled musculoskeletal ultrasonographer can do the evaluation in 10-20 minutes. Can be done with you sitting up or lying down. Think you will be pleasantly surprise.
