Ice application: Bilaterally aggressively for the first 48 hours post surgery. Sleep elevated (additional pillow or two), apply moist heat after 48 hours, take Ibuprofen 800mg routinely every 6 hours for first several days after surgery. Rest and limit activity. Swelling usually peaks at 72 hour - the third day. Levels off for a day and then begins decreasing. If you have only four days, he will be swollen.

Call the surgeon: Most surgeons have after hour answering services. I would recommend calling their office and speaking with the surgeon directly, as he/she knows your son's situation best.
