Avoid its causes: Almost all chronic bronchitis in western society is caused by smoking. Other causes include long term use of wood stoves without proper ventilation (quite common in the developing world), pollution in urban centers, and certain agricultural dust exposures. By far, the largest slice of the pie is from cigarette use. This is the thing over which you have the most control. Just. Don't. Smoke.
