Mononucleosis: Mononucleosis is caused by virus called epstein-barr virus, affects >95% of world population, 1/3 occurs during adolescence and young adulthood. Transmitted by oral secretions-, kissing or exchange of saliva from child to child. The virus can shed in oral secretions for >6mo after infection and intermittently for life. Second attack of mono caused by ebv has not been documented.
