Viral infection: CMV stands for cytomegalo viirus. More than 50% of the population acquires the infection in childhood without any symptoms, signs or disease. Primary CMV infection in a pregnant woman can cause serious disease in the fetus. Adults with immune deficiency may reactivate their latent CMV and develop various illnesses from it, e.g., retinitis, vasculitis.
