Approximately one of eight ovarian tumors in patients less than 45 year of age is malignant; by contrast, in older women, the proportion is about one of three. The single most common ovarian tumor, the mature cystic teratoma, dermoid cyst-benign tumor, is encountered at all ages. Clinicopathologic correlation is important.
