Baker's Cyst: A baker's cyst or popliteal cyst occurs behind the knee joint. It may remain swollen or it may vary. A cyst is a fluid filled cavity which usually communicates with the knee joint. Often the cause of the cyst is a torn meniscus. I often tell patients that draining the cyst would be analagous to cutting a weed. You have to find the source of the cyst. An MRI is used to help locate the source.
