Normal: Up to 70% of the population has the nasal cycle which is alternating congestion as a result of changes in blood flow through the nasal tissues. When we lay down there is an increase in nasal blood flow so that there is about a 20% increase in tissue thickness which will narrow the nasal airway and cause congestion. May also be allergy to something in bedding or pets, mites, or mold in bedroom.
