Being able to see only light or shapes, does that make you have low vision or are you considered blind?

By some definitions: Blindness has different definitions. In most cases, legal blindness is used for vision that is 20/200 or less. That is when letters need to be 10x closer to be seen. Severe constriction of peripheral vision is also a type of legal blindness. If one only discerns light/shapes, this is legal blindness. Low vision is a non specific term, that describes significant impairment often helped w magnifyers.

Near Total Blindness: Normal = 20/20 - 20/25 near normal = 20/30 - 20/60 moderate low-vision = 20/70 - 20/120 severe low-vision = 20/160 - 20/400 profound low-vision = 20/500 - 20/2000 near total blindness = <20/2000 blindness = no light perception "legal" blindness is usually 20/200 or less in the better seeing eye with correction, constriction to a 10 degree radius, or an equivalent combination of the two.
