Dr. Denny Cho answered

Papillae: The tongue's anatomy includes various types of papillae. Papillae are very tiny little protrusions on the surface of the tongue. On the back of the tongue the papillae look more like bumps. It may be the normal anatomy of the tongue and you just never noticed. If it is not, then get it checked out.

Taste buds: The bumps on the back of your tongue are your taste buds and you don' t want to get rid of them. The next time you see your dentist or physician, show your tongue and discuss with them.
