Over 102.5: Young children tend to get higher fevers than older children or adults with viral and bacterial infections. Even a fever over that level is not cause for panic as the fever is just a sign that the body is fighting an infection. The more important thing is to eliminate more serious causes of the fever. >104: Most people would consider a temp of >104 high fever. If there is no breathing issue, Ibuprofen or tylenol (acetaminophen) would help reduce the fever. Something with honey may calm the cough. The runny nose will have to wait. If the fever gets really high, see the pediatrician.
