Recovery v paralysis: This paralysis of one side of the face, usually recovers but in some cases the patient is left with weakness on the involved side and rarely with complete paralysis. Treatment in these cases involves mechanical, surgical support for the mouth to allow eating and protective changes for the eyelids to keep the eye functional.

It varies: Bell's palsy has a quite variable outcome. The majority of people will regain normal facial movement with time. Some will be left with partial weakness and a few will have complete paralysis. The more severe the initial paralysis and the faster it develops, the more likely there is to be some residual weakness.
