Yes: Strep throat can have serious consequences if left untreated. Chances are good that you would recover without antibiotics, but why take the chance? The antibiotics used to treat strep throat are safe for baby in case you wonder. Also, a lot of viral illnesses feel like strep throat, make sure you get a culture to confirm that's what you have. Strep: First off, you will need to know whether you have it or not. If you do, antibiotics known to treat strep throat are considered safe during pregnancy (penicillins or zithromax). See your doc to discuss it.

Potentially: Though your primary risk is low, you can develop kidney, heart and neurologic complications a few weeks to months after an untreated strep. If any of these affect you, baby will be at risk and your ability to carry the pregnancy will come into question.
