Feel the area: Do you have swelling or a bulge that could hint of a recurrence, or are there other changes that could indicate internal problems. If you have gained weight or have stressed the area a recurrence is possible.

See a doctor and have the site examined. Evaluate for simple muscle strain or hernia recurrence.

Recurrence hernia.: You had inguinal hernia surgery 10 years ago and now experience occasional pain at site. This could be a recurrence. 10 years ago you may have had open repair and the laxity of the abdominal wall may have led to a recurrence. It could be other things. See your surgeon and go from there. Risk factors would be smoking, it impairs healing. Weight gain, it puts stress on the repair. Etc.
