Brush, floss, & DDS: The most common cause of bleeding gums is the result of plaque, calculus and toxins that cause gum inflammation and tissue destruction. Daily effective brushing and flossing is the required 'maintenance' necessary to prevent gum disease. Only in the early stages, can good oral hygiene alone reverse gingivitis. See your dentist for an evaluation of cause and treatment.

Visit a dentist: Red, bleeding and swollen gums can be a sign that you are at risk for, or already have, advanced gum disease. Untreated gingivitis can lead to the tooth loss and other health problems. See your dentist ASAP because the sooner you treat it the better the outcome.
