Compartment syndrome: The muscle groups of the arms and legs are divided into sections, or compartments, formed by tough fascial membranes. Compartment syndrome occurs when increased pressure within a compartment compromises the delivery of blood and function of the tissues within that space. It can occur following acute trauma, or chronically, as seen in athletes. Acute compartment syndrome is a surgical emergency.

There are 2 types: The 2 types of compartment synd. Include traumatic & exercise induced. The first occurs after a significant injury where swelling within the limb gets so bad that blood flow to the tissue is compromised. It is a surgical emergency and needs to be addressed asap. The exercise type is way different. It happens after exercise & resolves short after stopping. Long term, it might need surgery.

Serious: It is a very severe and serious condition that can result in nerve and muscle damage if not treated. It results from pressure on those tissues, often from fracture or crush injury.
