?ganglion: It can be something else, but a ganglion is most likely. If light shines through it, it is almost certainly a fluid-filled ganglion. If not, it bears checking.

Maybe?: Swellings on the palmar side of your wrist near the thumb is a typical location for a ganglion. These can be sore especially with repetitive activities. Other causes of lumps and bumps are very uncommon and cancers are very rare, but do occur. If is has changed at all i would suggest that you get it checked out by your doctor.
