A member asked:

After lateral release and chondroplasty how do you know if you do to much? can you hurt it if you are on it to much? what shouldn't you do?

Pain and swelling: The lateral release should be finished healing at about 6 weeks. With proper rehab, the quad will be retrained and strong at 6-12 weeks. The chondroplasty will take the longest. Cartilage heals very slowly, in the 3-6 month range. If you are in the 6 month window, you should avoid activities that cause pain and swelling. Try lower intensity non-impact exercises.
