Tonsils & Vocal Cord: I think you may be mistaking the anatomy. Hoarseness implies a problem with the vocal cords. These are not the same thing as tonsils. I would advise a visit to a good ENT specialist.

Not necessarily: There are many reasons why a person's voice may be altered for long periods of time. Most of these are problems directly involving the larynx, or voice box. There are many potential problems that cause similar changes in the voice. An ENT physician can look at your vocal cords and throat to assess the situation and offer treatment advice. I would recommend consulting one.

See an ENT doctor: Complete loss, severe change in voice or hoarseness lasting longer than 2-3 weeks, it should be evaluated by an otolaryngologist- ENT (ear, nose and throat doctor). Take care.
