A member asked:

My mother has developed bronchiectasis. can you tell me what that is?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Distorted airways: Bronchiectasis occurs when a portion of the large airways becomes damaged, usually due to infection and scarring, and loses its elasticity. The floppy airway collapses easily which leads to trapping and pooling of pulmonary secretions and a cough that produces copious amounts of phlegm.
