See below: Symptoms could either be viral or bacterial. Suggest getting throat culture and/or rapid strep test.Viral infection will resolve without antibiotics so treat symptoms. Bacterial infection treated with antibiotics and managing symptoms.Highly unlikely you're dying but can happen with rampant infection like necrotizing fasciitis, septic jugular vein thrombophlebitis from fusobacterium, neck abscess.
