Jones fracture: Are very difficult to heal. The reason for elevation is to keep swelling down.

To reduce swelling: It helps to reduce swelling and therefore pain, unless you have some circulation problems - check with you physician.

2-3 days then as nee: Elevation you foot as much as possible (higher than your heart) for the first few days will limit or decrease the amount of swelling associated with the injury. There after elevation can decrease the pain/throbbing often associated with the fracture while healing it. Jones fractures can take 6-10 weeks to heal and are notorious for not healing and requiring surgery.

Jones fracture: If you have a true jones fracture, this may take up to 8-10 weeks to heal. It depends as well on the amount of displacement of the fracture. Elevating your foot really means to not walk on it. It is usually best to operate on it and place a screw into the bone for stability and increased chance of healing.
