A member asked:

Can you please define lithium used to treat?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Bipolar Disorder: Lithium is typically used by physicians for long term mood stabilization in bipolar disorder. It can also be used more acutely in combination with other medications to control more acute "manic" episodes of bipolar disorder. Lithium requires blood level monitor as too high a dose can be dangerous. Thyroid and kidney tests are also needed when using lithium.
