A 46-year-old member asked:
what percentage of cancers are treatable?
2 doctor answers • 2 doctors weighed in

Dr. Gurmukh Singh answered
Pathology 49 years experience
All: All cancers are treatable, but many are not curable. Treatment of non-curable cancers is geared towards providing relief of symptoms, especially pain, obstruction, disfigurement, mental health, and compassionate care.

All: Dr. Singh is correct. When i was a kid, we cured 2 out of 6 cancers (excepting the common non-melanoma skin cancers, which are easily managed). When i was in med school, it was 3 of 6; now it is 4 of six. "cancer is a word, not a sentence." be vigilant, avoid tobacco, and get seen early if you have any signs.

We currently have approved screeing tests for cervical, breast, colon/rectal, and prostate cancers.
