Unusual pain: A liver does not usually cause pain unless there is an hepatitis, enlarging cyst, abscess or tunor on the surface. An ultrasound is an easy screening test for these things, as is bloodwork called lft's ( liver function test) and hepatitis panel if abnormal lft's.
