What is the possibility of getting leprosy infection in india where you can see numerous leprosy beggars on streets?

Unlikely : In order to contract the leprosy , which i not a very virulent organism , you need multiple constant repeated , contacts like close family , touching and later washing the hands will not transmit the disease , most of the devoted health workers are not getting leprosy , with advanced medications , & sanitary facilities less and less cases are seen , hope the disease will be eliminated from human ra.

Agree w Dr. Rao: Leprosy is often called the least contagious of the infectious diseases. About 95% of people have natural immunity to Leprosy. It is most likely that leprosy is transmitted by nasal droplets by repeated & very close contact. Of interest - after 2 weeks of treatment many lepers are no longer infectious. So the risk is extraordinarily low.
