Only brefly: Immediately after surgery there may be muscle weakness & soreness that prevents deep breathing. As you heal the pains resolve & breathing becomes easier. If you have asthma or wheezing, or if breathing is getting worse & not better, call your surgeon. This is assuming your surgery was recent.

Mild: Yes, especially if it was an open surgery (you have a wound under your ribs on the right) because that makes breathing painful. Take pain meds and use insentive spirometer until the wound heals and you can breathe normally. Mention it to your surgeon during post-op visit. If you get acute shortness of breath call 911.
