Why would the po2 in the aleolar capillaries be higher than po2 in the left atrium?

Oxygen: The po2 in the alveolar capillaries represents the just diffused oxygen from the alveoli, by the time the blood gets to the la there is some mixing of the blood with some blood that may have gone by poorly aerated alveoli and not got as much oxygen into it.
