Controversial. : If one is truly eating in a healthy manner, vitamins are not necessary. However, there may be times where our eating may not be ideal and a multivitamin may be beneficial. It's similar to having car insurance; you probably won't need it but it's certainly good to have around when you do need it. I personally take a multivitamin daily, my dietary insurance policy.

Vitamins: Women of child bearing age should take 1mg of folic acid(pre-natal vitamins) verify you are getting recommended daily vitamins and minerals by keeping a log of your diet for a week on numerous free online diet/calorie monitors. If you are truly eating a healthy well balanced diet, generally, other supplements are not needed . Different medical conditions and situations often need supplement.

Unlikely: The vitamin industry markets their products as if we all are at risk for dome unspecified deficiency. If you eat a healthy diet and feel well, and are not afflicted with some illness chronically, you probably need nothing extra. One exception: vitamin d which because of our indoor lives seems to be deficient in most that are tested. Just take the d and not the multivitamin.
